ArrayBoundCheck··on V 0.3
This is why I don't believe a word from the author. I don't even know if the demo is actually translating it or a demo of how he wants it to work. I have no idea if 90% of it is hand translated (SDL, some complex routines, etc) with the easy 10% actually translated.

Or maybe 100% of it isn't translated but compiled to object files with a compiler with V generating wrapper functions. I have no idea what to expect

I just never heard of anyone using V and it actually working as they expect

ArrayBoundCheck··on “The joy of sharing has been driven from me“
If you don't own a copy are you a customer?
ArrayBoundCheck··on “The joy of sharing has been driven from me“
> I would have preferred a pixel art

Nothing wrong with a preference but online everyone bikesheds this. I heard endless complaints about Wind Waker cel shaded graphics and that was one of peoples most favorite thing about the game.

Sometimes I wonder how a site can disable or discourage bikeshedding in their comment section. It's probably impossible or needs so little traffic a moderator can handle it (1K comment per second is impossible)

ArrayBoundCheck··on Cell Lang: Why yet another programming language?
wc says it's 5645 words. Thats 10 pages. Are you saying 10 pages printed pages isn't a large page? I'm not sure how much easier you could have understood me
ArrayBoundCheck··on Cell Lang: Why yet another programming language?
When I clicked on the page I wanted to see an example and know if the language is meant for someone like me

I saw a huge page and clicked on links to find more pages just as big. I figure it's not for me because I love mini examples and low level and saw nothing like that.

So I wanted to say, you're probably not targeting me but make sure whoever you are targeting will know it's for them based on your site. No matter how nice the page looks, it's a large page and it's hard to know who it's for at a glance

ArrayBoundCheck··on Clang IR (CIR): A New IR for Clang
I read up to the may_explode example. You can already analyse this in clang. I have no idea what the actual point of any of this is since it claims something that is in reality already being done. Also the syntax is much harder to read than the current ir
ArrayBoundCheck··on Fresh is a new full stack web framework for Deno
I don't know what deno is and it appears that I'm the only one. Does this mean it's not for me? Would I want deno on my tiny 1 visit per hour website?
ArrayBoundCheck··on Meta is inviting researchers to pick apart the flaws in its version of GPT-3
Why is facebook using GPT-3? Generate fake content it wants to push out?
ArrayBoundCheck··on Revisiting the principles of data-oriented programming
One is ridiculous and uses immutable data. The other is made famous by a guy in a Hawaiin shirt and preforms well. Designer on vacation might help you to remember which is which
ArrayBoundCheck··on Ask HN: Help me help my deaf teammate
If live captioning fails for whatever reason and someone who types slowly needs to communicate, an option is asking the person to speak calmly and clearly as if speaking to an audience of 100 people. Calm simple language makes the guy at the back who can't hear every word understand you and a lip reader who may miss a few words would be able to understand
ArrayBoundCheck··on What it feels like when Rust saves your bacon
It's unfortunate how many upvotes this got from the title
ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
> I'd consider even 10% to be a significant performance hit. People scream bloody murder when CPU-level mitigations cause even 1-2% regressions. The marginal cost of mitigations when memory safe code can run without them is infinite.

What people? and in my experience rust has always been much higher than 2% regression

ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
You missed the point. Just like the author did when he disqualified all the C++ tools

Writing unsafe code and removing tools "because production" gets you unsafe code as shown in that rust cve

ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
ASAN isn't just "for testing". A lot of people went straight to the chart (like me) and it reeks of bullshit. double free is the same as use after free, null pointer dereference is essentially the same as type confusion since a nullable pointer is confused with a non null pointer, invalid stack read/write is the same as array out of bounds (or invalid pointers), etc

I also never heard of a data race existing without a race condition existing. That's a pointless metric like many of the above I mentioned

ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
Considering how much I got downvoted no I don't want to comment more about this. But I'll let you ponder why while using rust has you could get a use after free sometimes https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2021-4572...
ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
Haha yes. I love knowing I'm in bounds but unfortunately saying anything about C++ (that isn't a criticism) is out of bounds and my comment got downvoted enough that I don't feel like saying more
ArrayBoundCheck··on How safe is Zig?
I like zig but this is taking a page out of rust book and exaggerating C and C++

clang and gcc will both tell you at runtime if you go out of bounds, have an integer overflow, use after free etc. You need to turn on the sanitizer. You can't have them all on at the same time because code will be unnecessarily slow (ex: having thread sanitizer on in a single threaded app is pointless)

ArrayBoundCheck··on Deno raises $21M
I'm not particularly interested in serverless but my understanding is a developer doesn't need to know the server configuration and drops some code in. The service figures out how to route the domain to code and handle the storage, caching, etc

I rather know my configuration and use one big server with the static files on a CDN

ArrayBoundCheck··on Beginner's Series to Rust
Isn't rust 10+yrs old now? With 1.0 being 7 years ago? Feels like it's a language people like to talk about but not actually use for anything serious
ArrayBoundCheck··on Facebook says Apple is too powerful – they're right
Right or wrong, when it comes from fb I don't care. Meta has 0 credibility to me
ArrayBoundCheck··on Why do we all fall for AI-generated language?
Two things. First, I seen text generated by GPT-3, it's not hard to tell it's been generated. Typically the the text is short and could fool someone because it may have been uttered by an actual person (such as a 5 word sentence) or not short and becomes more obvious by the word

Second what is "Optimized for humanity"? If people are hand picking the text then sure you might be able to by chance get a dozen good sentences to put next to a dozen bad sentences from humans. But at that point maybe noone would bother to read it. People barely read past the title anyway

ArrayBoundCheck··on Cache made consistent: Meta’s cache invalidation solution
I didn't understand the tracing part. Is tracing 100% inside of polaris? If not does it start at the database? The first cache?

Does the invalidation need to be predictable before you can use tracing? What kind of parameters do you have so you don't have too much logging or too little?

ArrayBoundCheck··on YouTubeDrive: Store files as YouTube videos
I'm not sure if your examples are sticking to 0 or 255 RGB. If it is you might get a win by using HSL to pick your colors. If you change the lightness dramatically every frame maybe colors won't bleed across a frame. Then perhaps you can encode 2+ bits in hue and another 2+ in saturation getting a win and another minor one using 1+ bit on brightness (ie first frame can be 0 or 25%, next frame is 75% or 100%. I'm not too familiar with encodings though and how much it'd interfere with the other transforms
ArrayBoundCheck··on YouTubeDrive: Store files as YouTube videos
Do you have any idea how many more bits you'd be able to use if you applied any of the encoding transformations?
