Why can't this site just upload HTML files to their web server?
Neglecting the independent web is exactly what led to it dying out and the Internet becoming corporate algorithm-driven analytics machine. Making it harder to maintain your own, independent website, which does not rely on any 3rd-party to host or update, will just make less people bother.
It's not just one instance and not even one frontend existing for what can be described as "fediverse". Decentralization is the whole point.
> "a very niche set of individuals?"
Everything depends on the instance you're using. Some of them, like mastodon.social, are very active, others are not.
> "I hate the whole gimmick of 150 character messages"
Find a better instance. On the one I use it's 2k characters limit.
> "That's not independent web like it was."
Yes, because it's a whole new level of independence. NewGrounds, Myspace and everything you mentioned are centralized platforms, which is practically vendor lock-in, because you're dependent on just one vendor for everything you do on these platforms, while on fediverse, you aren't. Instances are completely (except for showing posts from one another) independent from each other - there's no central "authority" controlling all of them like there would be on a centralized platform. Thousands of them exist for every frontend imaginable, and you can create one yourself.
Fediverse exists quite successfully.
Well, this research states that "Between 2004 and 2013, Frutiger Aero was influential in advertising, media, stock images, cinema, gaming, and spatial design". That's page 4.
Who shoves it down someone's throat though? I can't remember the last time I used tiktok, probably 3 or 4 years ago, and I don't feel like anyone forces me to.
Only when the password is weak enough to bruteforce swiftly. It will take literally thousands of years to bruteforce strong passwords.

I think this issue of echo chambers exists because people become religious of their communities and refuse to listen to opinions of another communities - not because social media are flawed themselves.
I think it probably is irrational, but I don't think there's any way to combat such biases. It's just how humans as social species are - we're less likely to trust someone who doesn't trust our views or opinions.
And this is the second of only two posts there, with the first supposedly being written in July of 2022.
All of this leads me to a reasonable suspicion that this person is actually the one who made the post they're complaining about.
And are you going to support older browsers? I tested Anubis with https://www.browserling.com with its (I think) standard configuration at https://git.xeserv.us/xe/anubis-test/src/branch/main/README.... and apparently it doesn't work with Firefox versions before 74 and Chromium versions before 80.
I wonder if it works with something like Pale Moon.
For me it's just that "ordinary" users don't complain about them being added, which in practice means silent agreement.
