Argonaut998··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
Uber had only 25B invested in them before their IPO. OpenAI has 120B invested in them currently which excludes these kinds of deals (as far as I’m aware)!
Argonaut998··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
Does anyone feel that the jig is almost up? Surely the returns aren’t anywhere close to what investors expect with the sheer amount of cash at this point in time.

Are Anthropic and OpenAI rushing to IPO for immediate cash so they can delay the inevitable? Surely this cycle of robbing Peter to pay Paul to pay John to pay Tim must end.

We are only just now getting a taste of the “true cost” of these tokens. Then there is a lack of compute bottlenecking everything. Even now I’m looking at the 7.5x rate of tokens for Opus 4.7

Open models are promising and cost a fraction of what they proprietary models cost which the big two are vulnerable to when companies start to feel the cost of tokens.

Will data centres be built fast enough and powered sufficiently to lower the cost of compute thus tokens?

Is it just a giant Hail Mary to get to AGI ASAP before the economy collapses?

Above all else, I simply feel the models have plateaued. I am noticing productivity loss for tasks I deem as “complex”

Argonaut998··on 40% of lost calories globally are from beef, needing 33 cal of feed per 1 cal
Yes and calories as labelled aren't "true calories" either. Not all calories are equal.
Argonaut998··on 40% of lost calories globally are from beef, needing 33 cal of feed per 1 cal
Dog meat isn't available here, and where it is available in countries such as China and Vietnam, they are readily tortured and boiled alive to make the meat 'taste better'. No thanks.

It is for the same reason I do not eat pork.

Argonaut998··on 40% of lost calories globally are from beef, needing 33 cal of feed per 1 cal
Sorry, let me eat 1.8kg of lentils instead. The point I was making is that there is a need for both.

You are making an argument from authority too though.

Even ignoring my point, these people have more insight than anyone into their own products and their harmful/beneficial nature.

Argonaut998··on Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom
Do they need to be? If I was a billionaire surrounded by the most educated and competent people in the world I wouldn't even spare a thought for the "Whole words are better than phonics" crowd.

I don't know what steps they can take. I suppose the best course of action is to deactivate the account if the LLM deems the user mentally unwell. Although that is just additional guardrails that could hurt the quality of the LLM.

“Is illegal”

Well yes, that’s my point. :)

2. Is a woman being arrested and charged with causing “anxiety” for a series of tweets.

3. Is the same; wrongthink guised as “threats” etc

If you just want to defend the censorship as is your right then just say so instead doing the usual:

“It’s not happening”

“Ok. It’s happening and that’s a good thing”

Rigmarole and wasting my time.

It’s bad now and not perfect for sure, but I doubt these instances would be upheld by the higher courts.

I’m European and I do not. France and the UK especially come from the same liberal intellectual root as the USA. What we see today is a bastardisation of these principles in Europe. Only the US was smart enough to canonise it into law.
Argonaut998··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
Nope. People are certainly being arrested for speech (e.g. opinions) that would be protected by the first amendment in the US.

Guising it under a scary sounding law doesn’t change the nature of it.

Argonaut998··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
Be that as it may, people are being arrested for expressing wrong think
Argonaut998··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
Press freedom !== entirety of freedom of speech

European politicians are calling every day to censor social media. People are arrested regularly for social media posts.

Censorship is absolutely an issue in Europe and it’s only getting worse. I welcome such an attitude as this.

Argonaut998··on Anthropic officially bans using subscription auth for third party use
Two accounts of mine were banned for some reason and my sub was refunded. Literally from just inane conversations. Conversations also disappear and break randomly, but this happens on ChatGPT too sometimes
Argonaut998··on Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest reveal the severity of U.S. surveillance state
1. Because it is referring to the Super Bowl which was last week

2. Because everyone knows China is a surveillance state. It’s also entirely done by the state.

3. As above, the US’ surveillance is masked under private companies. This is far different from everywhere else.

4. Whataboutism (although I generally hate this newspeak term).

Argonaut998··on Ukraine fakes commander's death to trick Russia into paying $500k bounty
Imagine coping so much that you go through my history to find out where I’m from. Anyway, it seems like people like myself and the US are the ones who want peace. Regardless, I support Ukraine’s whole right to their territories and what it takes to defend them. Deceptive tactics just do not help Zelenskyy’s image. That is all.
Argonaut998··on Ukraine fakes commander's death to trick Russia into paying $500k bounty
It is deceptive and doesn’t help Zelenskyy’s image in the eyes of Trump and Putin.

Remember the Ghost of Kiev?

No, a shared resource worth billions and an avenue for trade and repaired relations between the EU and Russia being sabotaged and false flagged by another country has the onus on that country.

Fair enough, I'm not a Java developer actually, but I know all the guys in work use it over everything else. I've tried VSCode for Java development a few years ago and it wasn't suitable as an IDE, just as a file editor.
Argonaut998··on Ireland plans to make a $1,500 a month basic income for artists permanent
Make no mistake, this is not UBI. It is welfare/subsidisation by the taxpayer who actually brings in income. UBI is, well, universal. "UBI" that is not universal is welfare.
Argonaut998··on JetBrains cancels Fleet
For Java development nothing comes close. VSCode feels like a text editor in comparison, even with its extensions

As for general development JetBrains just works. VSCode requires a bunch of extensions made by different independent authors with different standards and it just feels glued together and inconsistent
