AnabeeKnox··on GDPR: Don't Panic
On what experiences with EU bureaucracy do you base your question?
AnabeeKnox··on GDPR: Don't Panic
Perhaps something similar to the supersuccesful EU "cookie law" where a website could ask you on your first visit if you are an EU citizen.

Wait, or is it EU residents and not just citizens? Be sure to get that correct.

There is no "TLDR" of the GDPR. It has to all be read, understood and complied with. This is basic legal compliance, and is not at all easy for a small business.

I was hoping for a nice respite to the anti-GDPR stuff we've seen recently, but this is just naked propaganda. In particular, the sentence:

"the GDPR has the potential to escalate to those levels but in the spirit of the good natured enforcers ..."

The author seems to have the idea that bureaucratic EU systems are inherently "good" and that even if things look bad on paper, it will be fine because they are "good" people. This is not how the legal system or legal compliance works.

"$50 per month is not an appropriate maximum price for this product ... the best customers of Humble Dot would spend more on coffee discussing buying it than they would on actually buying it; that seems like a poor allocation of value."

Great quote and great article!

"petit bourgeois stern moral impulse"

I don't know if you've ever met a working-class person, but I think you have things the opposite way round. It tends to be the middle-class petit-bourgeois who advocate a tolerant approach to the victims of drug abuse. Working-class people despise junkies because they are on the front-line of the associated crime, decay, danger, filth, child-neglect, disease etc.

For PHP, see the Spoofchecker class for similar functionality to the Python class discussed in the article.

It might be a hard sell to use Vancouver as a model. It has an area which is perhaps the most public display of social decay I've ever encounted in a first-world city, principally from drug abuse.
AnabeeKnox··on Chrome 68 will mark all HTTP sites as “not secure”
2 separate pages with the same content is penalised by Google. They are quite clear about that. I will switch on HTTPS tomorrow if Google make it so that a protocol change does not affect search indexing. My business depends on this. Do a Google search and see all the people whose websites have been demolished by dropping out of the Google rankings after implementing HTTPS. Absurd!
AnabeeKnox··on Chrome 68 will mark all HTTP sites as “not secure”
Ironically, the thing stopping me moving my website to HTTPS is Google themselves!

There is no clear and unambiguous way to move my website from HTTP to HTTPS without GUARANTEEING that my search index rankings will not fall in the Google search index. This is because Google treat the HTTP and HTTPS versions of the same resource as separate pages.

Until they fix this, I'm sticking with HTTP. A drop in our search rankings would be a catastrophe.
