I'd rather not have 500 crappy posts for every single valuable post. The former starts detracting from the site and ultimately decreases quality. You'll eventually reach a breaking point where everything is being drowned in the noise. Downvoting only works if you're an active enough participant, especially when it comes to the who is hiring posts many probably have minimal or zero participation.
Akkuma··on Is ReactJS really fast?
The most interesting thing to me is that React's virtual dom implementation, according to http://vdom-benchmark.github.io/vdom-benchmark/, is generally the slowest of the bunch. You could pretty much move to using anything else and have a faster vdom implementation and smaller library. Additionally, many out there are so similar to writing React that I don't see how using React is a win over the alternatives. In my own experience on my machine, the dbmon example in this article for Angular is significantly outperformed by the likes of cito+t7, http://t7js.com/dbmonster/precompiled.html. Angular shows roughly 6fps topping out at 6.7 for me, while t7 is showing roughly 13fps topping out at 13.8. I don't know about anyone else, but 100% more performance isn't trivial.

I'd like to see a way to "review" job postings that stick with companies. I've had many applications on postings go completely ignored without a response even when it is through email and mentions Hacker News. I've also seen what appears to be many purposefully misleading remote labels for jobs.
Akkuma··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (May 2015)
Location: Charleston, SC

Remote: Yes (my highest preference)

Willing to relocate: Possibly if most of the hassles and costs of moving are taken care of and it is a city/state I'm interested in moving to (ie. no CA or NY) while being something interesting worth moving for

Technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (node.js, express, React, Angular, knockout, and built my own, Rome.js), .NET (C#, MVC, Web API, ServiceStack) SQL, MongoDB (I've done backend, fullstack, and frontend), started working on an Elixir project

Interested in a lot of other technologies as well, so if you think I might be a good fit and willing to let me learn/train me, shoot me a message and I'll get back to you if I'm interested in what you do!

Akkuma··on Building a lower-latency GC
IIRC, Nvidia G-Sync and AMD's Freesync essentially accomplish what you're talking about.
Akkuma··on Enough with the Salts: Updates on Secure Password Schemes
Why not combine the two approaches? If you have a global salt stored either with your app on a separate server you make the attack require getting access to not only the database, but your global salt as well. A global salt on its own is clearly inferior, but at least to me combined with a unique per user salt should at least offer comparable if not better security.

Are you guys actually hiring? I don't see any jobs listed in this post or on your site.

Akkuma··on “Invalid username or password” is a useless security measure
Gmail allows you to use email+whatever. A lot of sites actually support this and this means it becomes significantly harder to determine what sites you use as each email+whatever is considered unique.

Akkuma··on Docker and Microsoft partner to drive adoption of distributed applications
I wonder how this will impact spoon.net, since they recently launched their windows container tech.
Akkuma··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2014)
Got up to the cluster of images and started to get annoyed, since I neither know what positions are open, the type of work those positions do, the tech used and whether or not they are remote.

The large trend of SPA makes this even less of a concern, since nearly all of the views are actually generated on the client.

Akkuma··on Amazon’s Twitch Acquisition Is Official
Doctor Who is on Netflix, so unless they have access to the current season that isn't a win to me.

Akkuma··on Rome is a dependency-free, customizable date picker
I've never used browserify, despite working in node, so I could be off base but I thought you didn't need to make it an npm package to support CommonJS and play nicely with the rest of your browserify js.
Akkuma··on Show HN: Stre.am for Android – Free, live video broadcast
No, we are not using Kickflip. Some of the guys did take a look at it and at that point it wasn't going to help them for mobile, especially Android, since they only supported Android 4.3+ IIRC and we had already developed the iOS app. Additionally, we use RTMP & RTSP on our mobile apps. RTSP on Android produces 2-4s latency, which from what I saw could only be topped by WebRTC. HLS was producing 30-50s latency and RTMP was about 10-15s IIRC.

Somewhat related, but there are some other issues with trying to serve up HD mobile video, such as bad network conditions and capped usage. 720p video at 30 requires quite a lot of upload bandwidth (~1mb/s) for a good looking video.

Akkuma··on Rome is a dependency-free, customizable date picker
I didn't try to gain traction with it since no one will use a library without documentation. Your passive aggressiveness is completely unwarranted. I never once stated he had to change his library's name. I was simply pointing out that the name was already used, since I know I personally try to avoid conflicts.
Akkuma··on Rome is a dependency-free, customizable date picker
I wasn't really intending to turn it into an npm package as I wrote it for browsers due to its use of MutationObserver.
Akkuma··on Rome is a dependency-free, customizable date picker
Bad news. I've had a javascript library named Rome that I created over a year ago, https://github.com/Akkuma/Rome/commit/0cdcd210351d5c546064be...

Additional dev here. I've done most of the video player work on the web and just recently did a little API work. Feel free to ask me specific questions about that or anything else.
Akkuma··on Show HN: Kickflip – Open Source Live Mobile Video Streaming SDKs
That's good to hear. Is the plumbing the "cost" of using the open source sdk, which in turn technically requires you pay for the service, or is there a way to remove all of the kickflip infrastructure plumbing and rely on our own?

I don't actually work on the mobile streaming side of things, I work on the web side, particularly the video player.

Akkuma··on Show HN: Kickflip – Open Source Live Mobile Video Streaming SDKs
Is the SDK going to allow a way to bypass all of the Kickflip infrastructure to allow the core streaming library to be used on your own maintained infrastructure?

On the product I work on, we already have our own house built media server and rtmp restreamer. As to not supporting RTMP, in our experience RTMP had much lower latency, which resulted in us switching away from HLS wherever possible.

Akkuma··on Apple set to get Beats in $3.2B deal
I had the opportunity to test 4-5 headphones without paying a single penny. I also got to try out a pair that was a slightly better model than my old ones I had on hand and found the differences too minimal to think it was worth upgrading to. It was pretty obvious that there were differences between all the headphones. In other words, I disagree with the "You're not missing anything" statement.

I don't know what your definition of spending too much money is, but you can still appreciate good sounding headphones without going crazy and spending an insane amount or constantly getting different gear. I had my last set of headphones for at least 5 years or so until I blew the driver and all the bass was screwed up.
