Akcium··on Ask HN: Is it me or Git rebase is kind of hard to understand?
I know little about git rebase, but the situation that just happened is kind of weird.

I was working on my branch as usual. Today I checked git status and found out that I'm in the process of rebase. I was afraid a little, and decided to abort it.

I lost my changes.

When to git reflog, saw tons of commits, tried to cherry pick the one that has my changes.

Now, I have my branch with my changes. But. If I pull from origin, I lost them. If I push force the branch, I'll erase other devs changes.

It's so confusing =(

Akcium··on The Stupidest Validation Rules
When I was coding an app in Russia I found out that middle name is not a required thing in our laws, while the employer insisted to make it required.

Names are a whole different topic, take a look at THIS: https://twitter.com/Hung_TT_Nguyen/status/150393686591691981...

Akcium··on The Stupidest Validation Rules
Does anybody has anything to add to this collection?
Akcium··on Show HN: I wrote a book about forms usability
Oh thank you for this!
Akcium··on Show HN: I wrote a book about forms usability
Good to hear
Akcium··on Should required fields be marked?
https://bureau.ru/books/ui/ this one
Akcium··on Ask HN: What's your biggest issue with HTML?
Some redundancy in tags (<b>, <strong>), forgiveness when it comes to coding (you can type anything, no errors, no problems, every browser decides how to interpret the code)
Akcium··on Show HN: Host Open-Source apps in your own cloud, no lock-in
Now that Heroku closed up the free plan, alternatives keep popping up like mushrooms.

One option is switching to a self-hosted PaaS — basically setting up a Heroku-like platform on your VPS/server that allows to deploy apps, provision SSL/set up reversy proxy, and monitor usage. That's what we're doing with Gardens, our new open-source product.

It allows you to: - Connect to your cloud provider, provision and configure a droplet, automatically set up reverse proxy - Deploy apps from your Github/Gitlab/Bitbucket, with CI/CD integration, using CLI or Web UI, or deploy in one click from a library of 130+ open-source/fair-code apps - Get native analytics with NetData, join a federated community with posts from big open-source Co's, easily write step-by-step guides for your tools, and more

We just launched, so curious to hear feedback from HN people! See more details via the link.

Akcium··on Ask HN: How do you cope with enviness?
I wouldn't say it's "just your 2 cents". It's more.

Thanks for this. Really.

Akcium··on Ask HN: How do you cope with enviness?
Thank you for your words.
Akcium··on Show HN: Lost Pixel – open-source visual regression testing for your frontend
I think I have already seen your project on Twitter, remember the nice gif.

Wish you luck with the project.

Akcium··on Show HN: Lost Pixel – visual regression testing framework for modern web
I like the gifs - that's how the work should be visualised
Akcium··on Show HN: I grew my startup to 100.000 visitors /m with no time for marketing
I don't know why but I instantly remembered about that guy who make the nomadlist site that consisted of one index.php with thousands lines of code.

The thing is that it didn't have any "contemporary" tech stack or whatever, and the founder even didn't know about all that stuff like git.

But the site brought him thousands or even millions of dollars :D

Ah, I know why I remembered about that guy: because he hit the market when the COVID began, so it was probably very timely (everyone started working remotely and then when the COVID ended everyone went to nomad lifestyle)

Akcium··on Forms in modals: UX case
I even remember I made a tweet for fun https://twitter.com/vponamariov/status/1528758532182515714 when I started working on a project that had up to 3(!!) modals inside.

It's not only hard for users, it's hard for developers, when they have scroll issues, when they should update each other, when you should keep track of URL (what if user hits F5 or wants to share these...modal hell)

Akcium··on Forms in modals: UX case
YES

Especially when the modal covers half of the page, with a form with dozens fields.

Akcium··on Forms in modals: UX case
It's my article. I just got a traffic spike, so I noticed it's here.

I guess the person who posted it checked out the URL that I have, and previously I indeed called it something like stop using modals.

The thing is that they are really OVERused. And right now I'm working on a project where we have modals inside modals and sometime even popup as a third layer. I cannot influence these decisions, but it's TOO much.

Akcium··on Show HN: Growth Hacking Kit
Looks cool how much time did you spend on it?
Akcium··on Show HN: Growth Hacking Kit
Looks really useful! Thanks!
Akcium··on The Universal Source of Data
I've just found this project and now I'm looking at why Russia has drastically decreased CO2 emission in 1991
Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
I've just realized that I actually get emails of people who get the free sample.

Well, technically I have a collection of emails right now, but I didn't mean to do it =\ Hm, maybe I can disable it.

But you can just put a random email, I believe that it'll be downloaded right away, apart from sending a link to an email. So yeah, I've just seen the emails and some of them are random, non-real emails

Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Thank you! :) It feels so nice when you hear "I know you".

Next year I'll improve the quality of my newsletter, since I haven't had much time to work on it recently =\

Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Thank you! yeah, I was collecting them from different .sketch files, tweets etc :)
Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Thank you!
Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Yeah, well, it's not a big deal after all. I've just thought that the idea is not that these tips are secret knowledge after all. Just wanted to finish this year with something more or less decent, and in the next year I'll keep on researching this area
Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Thank you!
Akcium··on Show HN: I made a book with a hundred UI/UX tips
Oh thank you, English is not my native language. Didn't know that there are two words, afterward and afterword =\
Akcium··on Common UI/UX mistakes devs make
Sometimes indeed people make something that supposed to be a button, but it's impossible to guess that it's button.

But this tip is more about links I'd say, or maybe controls in slide gallery and stuff like that

Akcium··on Common UI/UX mistakes devs make
I got used to twitter threads, it's like when you get one portion of information per tweet
Akcium··on Drunk Usability Testing
https://theuserisdrunk.com/

Here is the site. So this guy literally gets drunk and then test your site.

I think he's genius :)

Akcium··on Junior, Middle and Senior are useless titles
I really don't like them.

In my small company where I work, they call me team leader. Sometimes when I interview frontend devs, that are supposed to be junior, they know more than I do.

At least in theory.

I always see people say that "Hey, Middle should know this and that". Or "Junior should at least know this".

Why? Is Junior in Google and Junior in a small random company are the same skilled devs?

I think instead we should talk only about skills. What company needs is: hey, we have a VueJS project that uses a lot of d3.js. We need a guy who knows that. He might not know algorithms, or have a wide experience in high-load. We just need that guy, call him whatever you want.
