ActionHank··on Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood?
I mean, it's cute that you think that users are driving anything on the internet anymore.
ActionHank··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
Why is this noteworthy? If it's commercially available online it is reasonable to assume your enemies have access to it.
ActionHank··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
TB4 has not been saturated yet.

They are all gaming these benchmarks, it is perfectly reasonable not to trust any of them.

ActionHank··on Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting
Lol, "Outrageous that the company that chose to ignore copyright holder claims, chose to ignore my checkbox of intent despite the implied pinky promise".
ActionHank··on iPhone Duo
If pasteurized-vanilla-milk-toast-paste was a product.
ActionHank··on DeepSeek launching v4.1 flash cheaper and more capable than v4 pro
True, make them cheap and fast enough and you can scope and stack agents sufficiently that the error rate tends close enough to zero to be meaningfully useful.
ActionHank··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
More like Shopify skinning the company to make a novelty hat.
ActionHank··on Ask HN: Anyone still coding like 2021? Where do you work?
I am deeply envious that you have dodged the slop trenches and get to walk into a somewhat cleaner solution.

The rest of us have to clean up and maintain the slop and it's depressing as hell.

ActionHank··on How GPT‑5.6 Sol helps run quantum computing experiments
That is the most bizarre leap given that the best models bang-for-buck right now are Chinese.

The real issue here is the death of critical thinking.

ActionHank··on DeepSeek launching v4.1 flash cheaper and more capable than v4 pro
I am legitimately more excited for this release than any frontier models at this point.

I don't need a model that can invent new mathematics. I need something that is fast, cheap, and consistent. Give me that and I can build and scale.

ActionHank··on ChatGPT Images 2.5

ActionHank··on Connecting the Machines
I am not sure I fully understand the need to farm out sufficient work that I need a network of machines to do it. Unless you're just slop farming.
ActionHank··on GPT-6 Astra
"I refuse to see the wall that I am running directly into, because if I see it I will hit it"
ActionHank··on GPT-6 Astra
"Going forward we will capitulate and still try to keep the integrity of our benchmark in tact, but from now on every benchmark will be compromised with providers being able tweak things sufficiently to game at least a 30% bump in results."
ActionHank··on GPT-6 Astra
"This should be allowed, let me explain the reason they cheated and state again that they should be allowed to cheat."
ActionHank··on GPT-6 Astra
If this is really AGI, like really really, then this will be remembered as the day we all started on the path to building guillotines.

More likely though, it's AGI because they need to hold some claim to differentiate from competitors who are beating them in price and will launch something bigger next month.

ActionHank··on GPT-6 Astra
They broke up a while ago, why is this surprising?
ActionHank··on Claude for Commerce Agents
Maybe at this point it's all nonsense. I can only speculate with the framing of what what would lead me to barely push into so many verticals with no follow up.
ActionHank··on Launch HN: RonanRX (YC S26) – Personalized Peptides and GLP-1s
This is typical trend driven investment now, but late stage, influencers driver the market and then a lot of VCs seem to follow suit.

Are VCs still in the "smart money" cohort if they are following?

Reminds me of that Portlandia sketch "put a bird on it". Is it tech? Put AI on it. Is it health-adjacent? Put supplements / gray market / ethically-questionable-legislation-side-stepping on it.

Also makes me wonder, if AI is going to eat the world, why YC doesn't have a vibehouse spitting out thousands of these startups a month.

ActionHank··on Claude for Commerce Agents
The way they keep spinning off these niche offerings tells you one of 2 things, it's either working pretty well, or it is failing very, very badly.

They know they need to differentiate from other offerings that are catching up, but I don't know anyone who has just left their work up to any of these specialised products. Most try it say "it's interesting" and then move on.

ActionHank··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
At 1/10th the price they will. Claude is way overpriced for most peoples needs.
ActionHank··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Good news for you is that vastly cheaper models can do this much more quickly.

Bad news for Anthropic and investors is that vastly cheaper models can do this much more quickly.

ActionHank··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
The big issue they face right now is that vastly cheaper open models are proving capable for more and more uses at cents on the dollar.

This is the right direction, but they aren't going to get there fast enough.

They will list, investors who don't know anything about tech will buy, the world will realise that China just put out a model that is good enough at a fraction of the price, they will crater.

ActionHank··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
We have the same policy at work.

Problem is, that you realise very quickly the asymmetry of responsibility and effort. There is far more to review from people who do not care enough to even look at what the agent pooped out.

ActionHank··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
No, you misunderstand, I am not saying run a batch there. I am saying that YC should startup an org there that purely contracts to their startups, no need to hire, no need for H1Bs.
ActionHank··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
Gotta be honest, I very strongly doubt that most H1Bs go to people out of the EU.
ActionHank··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
What obligation does the government have to those who are not their citizens? 100% a lottery, but your logic here is willful ignorance.
ActionHank··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
Why not spin up the startups in those other countries then?

Heck, why not spin up YC Foundries elsewhere in the world?

No H1B needed.

ActionHank··on Serve Markdown to AI Agents with Accept Headers
I think you misunderstand how this plays out.

It's more along the lines of "Oh, hey there, you look like a bot, here are details on how to use our monetized mcp".

More likely though is that nothing will change here, because people will abandon it as soon as there is a paywall.
