A-Train··on Want to Learn Programming and Microcontrollers?
Thanks for this article. I have a friend whom I asked almost the same question as is in the article. He suggested to me modules based on esp32.
A-Train··on Why AI is harder than we think
Whatever AI is or will be it won't be written by us. Architectures designed by deep learning methods are often better and simpler than designed by humans. We just lack the tools to run the search.

I think that AI is a function. Give the person 2 similar inputs and the output will be often similar. I have situations when I am presented with the same problem one month apart and my answer is exactly the same.

A-Train··on Programming languages: JavaScript has most developers; Rust is fastest growing
Don't worry. There are more and opportunities. I feel that Rust enables a paradigm shift in application development. When people realise that they dont need cloud infrastructure to do 90% of the stuff they will move to languages like Rust and Go.
A-Train··on Launch Your App: Why We Don’t Use Docker (We Don’t Need It)
At my startup we do the same but with Rust. All the reasons stand. Insanely fast, self contained (web service / embedded UI with static js/html). Could not be happier with the architecture.

I wrote it about it here if anyone interested https://logicai.io/blog/recommendation-systems-in-rust/.

A-Train··on Brave disables Chromium FLoC features
This doesn't prove anything. FLoC is enabled only in 5% devices in selected countries.
A-Train··on Ask HN: What novel tools are you using to write web sites/apps?
I do the same thing with "no SQL db". The only thing I do differently is not make snapshot of the state but rather replay events to achieve the same state as before (or different t if we migrate to different logic). Also all the changes that are possible are typed events. It wont be a problem to save the state like you do but right now our application changes so often that we have to make sure we can replicate the state even if the logic changes.

Would love to talk to you about this.

A-Train··on How much can a Clojure developer do alone?
Pretty interesting topic. I am all for composability. However, I don't necessarily agree with particular benefits of pure data literals. I feel more secure when I wrap even simple types like Strings so that ItemId, UserId is a String but I cannot interchange them.

Similar level of composability with objects and structs can be achieved with generics and traits. I have a code that operates on arrays and matrices however particular implementations depend on the context - it is a DSL embedded into the application. For example I have `lazy matrices` that don't own the matrix or I can have matrices with owned data.

A-Train··on Ask HN: How do I find energy to work on hobbies after the work day ends?
I am the same. I bought a PC and played video games for 1 month then I got bored. I just needed this to recharge. Now I am back on a company project and I have a very good flow. What worked for me is melatonin to get better sleep too.
A-Train··on Rockstar pays $10k to modder who fixed GTA Online loading times
To all the people saying 10k is low. What he did and the way it got acknowledged can net him millions of dollars in the future income. He could start a company saying that "from the guy who reduces GTA V loading times 70%". I think that what he did is amazing and I'm sure it is not the last time we hear from this guy.
A-Train··on Julia: A Post-Mortem
Julia will never become a mainstream language because it is not general enough. The syntax is inspired by matlab which is good for linear algebra. Also it is not object oriented which is probably the most popular paradigm. Python will not be overtaken soon by such an exotic language.
A-Train··on AWS Lambda pricing now per ms
It sounds like you are assuming that faster code means you need to sacrifice something which has negative consequences. If you know upfront you need faster code you may choose a statically compiled language and I don't see it as a sacrifice.
A-Train··on Intel is spreading FUD about supposed Ryzen 4000 performance drops on battery
This was a very smart cold blooded strategy. They didn't need to do anything at this point because within a few days after the launch there were plenty of reviews to confirm they had the best high-end CPUs. They knew they were winning.
A-Train··on Google's new logos are bad
Exactly my thoughts. Calendar app should be a calendar. It is really hard to notice the new icons from all the others.
A-Train··on On Being Bipolar
I read about keto diets being helpful in schizophrenia and such. It should be easy to find.
A-Train··on Show HN: I made a computer vision addon for Blender
I dont think so. It generates stereo images from 3D (not takes them as an input) so it is exactly related to blenderproc and other tools.
A-Train··on Ask HN: How to Learn Rust
I like this one https://github.com/rust-lang/rustlings. It is a set of exercises in which you must fix fragments of the code to pass the test.
A-Train··on Statement Regarding the Zen Programming Language
There are multiple companies who are dependent on a programming language. Jane Street has adopted ocaml as the main language - they are the part of the ecosystem by now with many "core" libraries they created. RStudio is depending on R.
A-Train··on Trump threatens to 'close' down social media platforms
Believe it or not but Sasha Baron Cohen made a great argument to everyone who thinks that Twitter should not interfere with freedom of speech.

Basically quoting Sasha's argument "freedom of speech is not the freedom of reach". Spreading lies, hate and false information is everyone's right if they do it in their home alone but they shouldn't be allowed to reach bigger audiences.

A-Train··on SARS-CoV-2 was already spreading in France in late December 2019
Top 10 things I don't want my doctor to say. Honorable mentions: "whoa what is that"...
A-Train··on Redis 6.0 GA
Is this that bad? At our company we are using redis for real time recommendations. And this is our primary database for storing accumulated statistics about items and users. It has been important to us to have a quick way to share the data between the workers and we chose redis.
A-Train··on New coronavirus can persist in air for hours and on surfaces for days – study
Technically it is SARS-CoV-2 and it causes COVID19. Like HIV and AIDS.
A-Train··on Ten-Minute Coronavirus Test for $1
There is evidence look at Asia. Everyone is wearing a mask and they control the virus. If you want to search for research based evidence there are plenty but focus on the research pre coronavirus - right now there is too much noise. One research suggested that with good handwashing masks reduce the infection rate by 75%.
A-Train··on Why some governments appear not to be acting on the Covid-19 threat
What? There is tons of stuff governments can do to flatten the curve. Educating people, closing schools, people gatherings, obligatory masks for all (or DIY bandanas), testing more.
A-Train··on Samsung accidentally sends 'Find My Mobile' notifications to Galaxy phones
Same here. I saw it literally 1 minute ago and there is already a hackernews article.
