9point6··on Sriracha CEO on why he chose not to trademark the brand
"And he can't be bothered to give any shits about trademarking it today because he's too busy raking in roughly all the money."

What a car-crash of a sentence.

9point6··on The DaftPunKonsole
This will probably be about as responsive as this can get without a low latency audio driver.

At least on Windows, this is similar to the latency when using a MIDI keyboard and a DAW with non-ASIO/WaveRT audio drivers. I think for Linux the analogue would be higher-latency with PulseAudio than with JACK.

9point6··on Google Isn’t Fixing Some Old Android Bugs
Perhaps the dev phone has a slightly different situation? I know someone with a 1st generation HTC Wildfire (formerly) for testing and when you the market throws a connection error and refuses to go any further. I've seen the same thing on other Android phones from that era.
9point6··on Google Isn’t Fixing Some Old Android Bugs
They actually do this on a lot of the oldest devices, but probably not for the same reasoning. I occasionally come across phones that are too old to support Google Play Services (<2.2 IIRC), so they're stuck on the Android Market, which no longer works.

It would seem that's not made OEMs/Carries feel the need to update them.

9point6··on Introducing Google Cast for audio
You converted an LPCM Audio file to a Windows Media Video file to upload to Google Music?
9point6··on Introducing Google Cast for audio
There are other apps that allow you to stream your local music if that's what you want to do (AllCast, BubbleUPnP, etc).

But I've always wondered about this argument - Why wouldn't you put your local music library on Google music? It's free and means you've got access to your library everywhere. I could understand before they had matching that uploading 100+GB of music is probably not desirable, but it now even big libraries are fully uploaded in a day or so.

They're probably looking to nurture some vendor lock-in
9point6··on Android: I don't need your permission
Don't all the current nexus devices come with full-device encryption enabled?
9point6··on Functional Programming using JavaScript
To be honest, using replaceState for this doesn't seem to make sense to me. A user would probably want to go backward and forward through this using browser history navigation (for instance using the navigation buttons on their mouse).

If you're launching a link from a page you expected to come back to, surely opening the link in a new tab would be the way to accomplish this?

9point6··on Stop Changing UIs for No Good Reason
I would say Windows search pre-Vista was unusable in general due to the poor/non-existent indexing and poor support of non-ASCII formats or anything beyond basic file metadata. Microsoft's solution to the not being able to support every file-type under the sun was to allow plugins to provide new types, which work quite well IMO.

Best of both worlds:

9point6··on Show HN: I built an Android game after work with a friend in 6 months
Depends on the food, there're things I've heated in the microwave that have been cooling down for the past two weeks
9point6··on A simpler, faster way to use Hangouts on your desktop
Is there any way to have this auto-hide in some way?

9point6··on FTL: WebKit’s LLVM-based JIT
Apple's WebKit used "Nitro"/"JavaScript Core", did it not? V8 was just for Chrome (Which isn't even WebKit anymore).
9point6··on Google accused of YouTube ‘free ride’
Dumb Pipes? No. They're a series of tubes.
