>Eh? Samsung still maintains a whole suite of independent alternative apps, providing things ranging from NFC payments to calendaring and contact management, that they stuff onto their phones in addition to the usual Google fare.

Which is EVEN WORSE in maintaining device attestation than Android. Read about the Knox warranty bits.

You do not expect any 'normal' person to ever use this SXMo shell, right? Hell, most nerds I know wouldn't want to touch this with a 10ft pole.

Revolut works fine as long as you're happy to follow the cat-and-mouse game. Use the Hide My Apps LSPosed module along with TrickyStore and a valid keybox and you're gucci. Problem is, this setup needs almost constant maintenance.
71bw··on Leaked Apple M5 9 core Geekbench scores
Because I'd prefer to run bare metal and, if I recall correctly, macOS still hogs up 50+ GB on a clean install - and there is no GPU acceleration(? - might be wrong here).
71bw··on Leaked Apple M5 9 core Geekbench scores
There is no decent option on an alternative operating system. I do not like macOS and its many quirks, especially its extremely gatekept nature, including the system being SURE that what IT wants is the best for me; I understand that this might be an approach that some people prefer, but in my case it's the equivalent of showing a bull a red cloth.

I will say this - and most will not like this - that I'd go out and buy a M* MacBook if they still kept Boot Camp around and let me install Windows 11 ARM on it. I've heard Linux is pretty OK nowadays, but I have some... ideological differences with the staff behind Asahi and it is still a wonky hack that Apple can put their foot down on any day.

And yet, it allows the user to experience true freedom unlike Apple's offerings.

Depends on what he did with them. Likely nothing, considering he's speaking about it so freely on a public website.

Wonder what the implications of just taking the CC numbers 20 years ago would have been?

71bw··on What is “good taste” in software engineering?
This is why I never went into CS educationally. I was never treated in a respectful way by the Polish system. Always treated like ass
71bw··on UK Petition: Do not introduce Digital ID cards

>probably with safetynet checks to ensure it can't be running a custom rom

And they can, forgive me for my rather vulgar language, fuck right off with this thinking. Problem is it will still go into place, because for most people giving up the right of being able to govern their own device that they paid for is not a problem for whatever reason. Neither will it be until it touches something that is important to them - that's when, hopefully, some more people will be able to see that we are rapidly spiralling downwards toward a complete techno-authoritarian dystopia.

OR, if you want to partake in shady shenanigans, there's always the official LSPosed internal testing. Forgive me for this Telegram link but it's the best option to share this: https://t.me/RootDetected/138/510

Exactly the reason I still use LSPosed with the disable_flag_secure module on my device.

>Microsoft does something similar with Windows Defender: you need to buy a developer certificate that can be revoked at any time if you want to distribute your app and have users be able to run it.

Clarifying: you CAN run an unsigned app just fine on Windows. A lot of freeware/"indie" (for lack of a better term for small software) programs run just fine, the only thing that happens is the user recieves a warning they have to press "Yes" on (which 95% of people do, because That's The Windows UX[patent pending]).

71bw··on Privacy and Security Risks in the eSIM Ecosystem [pdf]
RCS is a whole another kettle of fish indeed and the fact it only works with Play Integrity being on Device/Strong and the bootloader being locked is absolutely asinine to me.

...? - they are literally the norm in Android land nowadays, it's only Apple that INSISTS upon a single SIM or, in third-world variants, two eSIMs.

I might not exactly be the benchmark for this but for the entirety of preschool and then the first 4 years of primary school I went in for a week and took 2 weeks of what I would now call sick leave. Left me with a heart disease and a real scare for what I should do if I ever have kids to avoid this happening to them.
