6d6b73··on Climate-Strike License
And you wrote that on a device that would not exist without that oil.
6d6b73··on Climate-Strike License
So if I create a library that helps chemists predict how to do something 30% more efficiently, and I license it with this license, refineries won't be able to use it, even if they are trying to improve their current processes to make them more eco-friendly...
6d6b73··on SpaceX successfully launches two humans into orbit
While it's a huge success. , really it should not be heralded as an private space flight as most of it was payed for with government money.
6d6b73··on Hardware Microphone Disconnect in Mac and iPad
How about disconnecting it when you're near the laptop and the lid is open because you're .. I don't know... working on it?
6d6b73··on The Discovery of Radium by Marie Curie
Right there in the text: Author: Marie Sklodowska Curie

So why the are you people still changing her name to just Curie?

6d6b73··on Coronavirus Disease 2019 Situation Summary
I find it interesting to compare what's CDC is doing right now ( messed up tests, not enough testing, protecting markets but not people) to what we can see CDC doing in movies like Contagion where they are on top of everything before anyone else even knows that the there is a new virus in the wild.
6d6b73··on Mozilla’s DNS over HTTPs
So now just one company will have access to all the data from 99% of firefox users? I don't see how giving so much power to just one entity is better for our privacy.

Previously if I used my computer at home, coffee shop, work, hotel etc it would be very hard if not impossible for one company to get all of my browsing history. And giving it all to one company is a better idea?

6d6b73··on 500 Byte Images: The Haiku Vector Icon Format (2016)
How does vector graphic compare to bitmap when it comes to cpu usage? It wouldn't make sense to save few bytes in memory only to spend more cpu resources later.
6d6b73··on ThinkPads 2020 - X13 AMD - X1 Nano?
How about bluray? 25GB for ~$0.70. Personally had so many sd cards, and even usb sticks fail that adding another type of storage as a backup for important files really makes a lot of sense.
6d6b73··on ThinkPads 2020 - X13 AMD - X1 Nano?
That one is actually something similar to what I'm using, except mine is just $24 on amazon and doesn't need any drivers. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-USA-ThinkPad-40A20090US-Thinkp...
6d6b73··on ThinkPads 2020 - X13 AMD - X1 Nano?
I use them quite often, as I work with a lot of legacy hardware and software.
6d6b73··on ThinkPads 2020 - X13 AMD - X1 Nano?
Because I can lock my laptop to the docking station, because it can also transfer power, and gives me access to many more ports than regular usb based docking station has.. and back in the good ol' days you could have a docking station with such ancient devices like cdrom and floppy - something that I don't need to carry around, but would be nice if I could access while sitting at my desk.
6d6b73··on ThinkPads 2020 - X13 AMD - X1 Nano?
Hopefully they will have some Thinkpads with regular docking station not this ridiculous cable based solution everyone is trying to push now.
6d6b73··on 7k-year-old well is the oldest wooden structure ever discovered
By whom? Western Europeans? Geographically Czech Rep is in Central Europe, as is Poland and few other countries.
6d6b73··on Artificial intelligence will do what we ask, and that's a problem
I don't know how any one can believe that AI will be so smart that it can turn the entire world into paperclips yet so stupid that it won't know that it's a bad idea.
6d6b73··on Drugs that tamp down inflammation in the brain could slow cognitive decline
Wouldn't it be better and more effective to treat the cause of the inflammation instead?
6d6b73··on Federal safety agency launches probe of Tesla battery fires
Oh FFS. It doesn't matter if it more or less likely, it matters that it does happen and therefore should be investigated to protect people now and in the future.. You want them to wait until number of ICE vs EV fires are equal to start investigating this? Why not do it now, and fix the problem? Not only it will potentially make EVs safer now, but it will potentially make EV companies more profitable in the long term ( less legal fees, recalls etc).
6d6b73··on The Unparalleled Genius of John von Neumann
That war criminal? The sooner we forget about him the better.
6d6b73··on We Stood Up to a Patent Troll and Won
I wonder if patents like "Internet-based proxy service for responding to server offline errors" [1] also qualify to be in the "troll" category.

6d6b73··on Massachusetts Sues Exxon over Climate Change, Accusing the Oil Giant of Fraud
Massachusetts should now return all the taxes collected from selling gas. After all if selling gas is fraud, so is collecting taxes on it. :)
6d6b73··on Google clamps down on free storage
The problem here is not that Google started charging people for their services

The problem here is not the question if Gmail is good or not.

The problem is that they subsidized their Gmail and other services in order to get rid of small competitors and once they have a large market share, they will make most of their services paid. It will take time, it will be slow but it's going to happen.

And they use their large market share to keep all of the small independent mail providers and self-hosted email servers in check by marking their emails as spam.

6d6b73··on Record number of colleges drop SAT/ACT admissions requirement
Next: no grades needed to get BS, MA, PhD. and no attendance necessary. After all some groups are at a disadvantage and they will not be able to attend the classes.. While we're at it - why don't we have The Degree Lottery (tm), or better yet, give degrees right after conception.
6d6b73··on [dead]
Let's sanction developing countries for doing what the west has done before?

How about having the developing countries pay for the damage done to the enviorment and using that money to help developing countries with building cleaner power plants instead?

6d6b73··on Can I Email: ‘Can I Use’ for email
Well, plain text doesn't require smart or sophisticated screen readers. Anything that can read text will work, that's why plain text emails are more accessible. Not every person that needs screen reader can afford some top of the line device.
6d6b73··on Can I Email: ‘Can I Use’ for email
Why using plain text is better:

- readable under any mail client and any text editor

- smaller size files

- safer

- better accessibility and compatibility with screen readers

6d6b73··on Software made me loathe my car
I on the other hand, love that my 4Runner has a built-in crappy navigation system. I don't like the fact that it's crappy but I love that it's there whether I have my phone with me or not. Yes, it's not often that I don't have my phone with me but one time when I needed navigation, to get back home, and I dropped my phone and broke the screen it was a godsend.
6d6b73··on Tasty Seaweed Reduces Cows’ Methane Emissions by 99%
It is if you're on the receiving end of the methane emissions :)
6d6b73··on Madoff whistleblower Harry Markopolos calls GE a ‘bigger fraud than Enron’
Funny thing about NET terms.. Now a lot of the large companies do billing only twice a month. So if you're unlucky your NET 30 will change to NET45 + 5 days for mailing, bank processing etc.. Somehow I always get unlucky and miss their billing day with my invoices.
6d6b73··on Tourism Is Overwhelming the World's Top Destinations
Python is Eating the World

Tourism is Eating the World

Software is Eating the World

[...] is Eating the World

I guess there will be nothing left to eat soon.

6d6b73··on Effects of a glyphosate-based herbicide on soil ecosystem
They used glyphosate based herbicide, but report only detection of glyphosate and AMPA, and not other ingredients that some people claim are the main problem with Roundup.
