4gotunameagain··on Socrates vs. the Written Word (2011)
From the linked article :

And so it is with written words; you might think they spoke as if they had intelligence, but if you question them, wishing to know about their sayings, they always say only one and the same thing.
And now imagine that the only one and same thing the LLMs say is not only fixed, but intentionally steered as the biggest and most inflexible propaganda mechanism we have ever seen.

Especially given the lack of competition in the space, and people mostly using models from 2 or 3 providers.

4gotunameagain··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
The only reason I enjoy cheap food is the industrialisation of agriculture and the subsequent increase in yields.

P.s. the EU already decides how much, how many, what and when will be planted, through subsidising. And it's going quite well.

4gotunameagain··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
I do not think that housing should be broadly available for trade in global markets, in the typical definition of a commodity.

That enables mass buyouts of housing from corporation which leads to rent extraction and a myriad of woes.

4gotunameagain··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
This is not true. Two more strong government interventions that would benefit the housing market:

- Tax empty flats to death

- Disallow corporate ownership of residential property

4gotunameagain··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
The article you linked can be clearly interpreted in a way that would make it possible.
4gotunameagain··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
The "free market" (which has been demonstrated to not be free at all) has no place in basic needs such as housing.

Rent extraction is utterly counterproductive for a society.

Housing should not be a commodity.

Association clouds.. Routes.. Whatever this is..

  pigeon-footed → splayed toes → several directions → indecision → ambivalence
Do not cross the two clouds until each has several branches.

Reject commemorate + dulcigenic → a sweet memorial. Prefer A monument can turn bitterness into sweet nostalgia without changing what happened.
Reject preindicant + sclerotical → a hardened omen. Follow foretelling → divination and hard anatomy → bone to knucklebones.
It is a prime example of esoteric LLM incantations, if not -excuse me- nonsense
4gotunameagain··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
> The Chinese and Russians are in no mood to slow down relative to the US.

Typical boogeyman fearmongering to justify the existence and expansion of the US military industrial complex.

Out of all these three (US, China, Russia), a simple count of who has started more wars and conflicts is a clear indicator of who is the one initiating the vicious cycle of aggression and "defense" budgets.

4gotunameagain··on SpaceX sues to block release of tax-break records for its Texas Terafab project
The hypocrisy of Elon is unprecedented. He made his entire empire using tax money as an immigrant, and now he is anti tax, anti immigrants.

It would be funny if it weren't tragic, as he is one of the most powerful bellends on the planet right now.

Which being public wealth, should be publicly available.

Data that were sourced from the public, should be public. We need this legislated, or wealth inequality and fiefdoms will keep growing with the historically known outcomes.

If the price were to drop all the way down to $10/barrel, demand would skyrocket.

The future where oil demand is so low and and will remain low even after low prices is much further ahead I'm afraid.

4gotunameagain··on The title cards in Blade Runner are amazing
I appreciate the tongue in cheek joke, but it is quite different.

In the case of music, you virtually always only hear the music, and the written down form is just a formalisation of said music.

In the case of language, a vast corpus of information (the majority of it) is available only in written form, with only recent proliferation of recorded audiobooks.

Additionally written text is a separate form of language with its own beauty and particularity, while in the case of music notation it is just an imperfect way of making notes of music. So many of the parts and details which make music beautiful are absent from the vast majority of partitures.

4gotunameagain··on More German than many Germans
There is a problem though. Who sets the rules? Is it guaranteed that the rules are always sane, and for the benefit of society?

I think a baseline level of rebelliousness is necessary. I also think that the German cultural obsession to comply was necessary for the Nazi madness.

Which exercise outside mimics that movement while simultaneously being so easy on the joints ?

Anyway this is just silly, we are splitting hairs. A lot of machines have a functional purpose and do not exist for the lazy. The LHC, ships, thousands of examples.

4gotunameagain··on More German than many Germans

...What I knew about Germans.. ..who speak a language that sounds too harsh.. ..And of course, someone always brings up the Nazis
That's bold, coming from Turkish people when their country is in an aggressive military dictatorship and the language not particularly pleasant to the ear.

I guess we all need someone worse than us to cope.

4gotunameagain··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan

The race-neutral casting of Nolan’s Odyssey was inevitably deplored in some quarters. But there is nothing progressive about it. Most of the non-white actors – Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Himesh Patel, Corey Antonio Hawkins, Travis Scott – play versions of the Black best friend, whose only role in the drama is to provide aid to the white protagonist.
It wasn't enough for Emily Wilson (an upper class white British American woman) to include black people in the cast, they should've been the protagonists.

Can you imagine if a film adaptation of the Epic of Sundiata had white actors ? The whole western world would stop spinning.

I really wish all those senseless racial tensions of the US had not spilled over to the rest of us.

Nobody in France would bat an eyelid if a movie had white only cast, as nobody would bat an eyelid if a movie had black only cast.
