3amOpsGuy··on We (unexpectedly) got 60K users in 60 hours - What we learned
I feel like I want these guys to succeed just because Patrick seems such a nice guy, have enjoyed reading the threads.
3amOpsGuy··on Things Most Americans Don’t Know About America
Haha, a page of comments (well, 3/4, i stopped scrolling, seen enough!) on HN from Americans living up to their stereotypes.

Top work guys :-P

3amOpsGuy··on Python for iOS
Ha, typical. I just bought this last week. It's ace though even at 1.99 or whatever it cost me.

When I say ace, expected limitations apply, however with a fully working network and threading library, it's no hassle to extend SimpleHTTPServer and allow you to upload your .py files created elsewhere.

3amOpsGuy··on Google launches BigQuery - Analyze big data on the cloud
The ability to JOIN (even if it is limited to 8Mb) is pretty useful for a couple of specific use cases we came up against recently.

It can reduce the disk (& therefore more importantly, cache) space requirements of the materialised views you otherwise have to maintain with a product like Cassandra (which is still ACE! IMHO).

3amOpsGuy··on Your Startup Needs a Dashboard
I built a dashboard (very pretty if i do say so myself!) using the ITRS Geneos product. Management love it. The operations guys, not so much. Why?

We have plenty of tasks we could constructively spend our time on rather watschen der blinkenlichten.

If no one's going to watch your dashboard, why build it? If occasional glances at a dashboard is your monitoring strategy, why monitor at all?

Our monitoring system has to not only interrupt and alert us, it also has to be capable of some interventions on our behalf occasionally.
