3327··on George Hotz Presents Comma Neo
Agree - perhaps joke is a bit over the top... however its a DIY kit at best a project many accomplished graduate or these days undergrad teams could produce within months especially at leading institutions, berkley, stanford, etc.

I guess my "joke" comment was from the perspective of investors putting in upwards of 3mn angel round.

3327··on George Hotz Presents Comma Neo
So let me get this straight. After 3mn bucks of funding and a few vanity demo's on techcrunch and this the output is a DIY 3D printed with a 120mhz microcontroller that you solder together? Are you fucking kidding me?

A opensource file that cannot drive on El Camino? Clearly The investors are very disappointed and pushed to see some material traction which is a DIY kit akin to the ones sold at hobby shops.

Sorry but calling Musk out publicly and claiming you are going to destroy Tesla is easy and clearly easier said than done and nothing more than attention grabbing stunts.

Hotz - you realized building something real is not easy as talking out loud with your mouth full? Next time swallow the food before you talk buddy and take a little taste of humble pie because a year in and a DIY kit as milestone is joke.

3327··on Azure IoT Loves Open Source
Funny how the dev marketing just "swoop" in so we rest assured its Sam's original contribution.
3327··on Azure IoT Loves Open Source
It is an organized effort as a campaign to be on HN within Microsoft dev marketing teams- win hearts and minds. See the defense from marketing within the company? That is validation for you right there.
3327··on Azure IoT Loves Open Source
Microsoft PR arm again on HN. We all known what Microsoft loves.
3327··on Bill Gross warns financial markets have become 'a Vegas casino'
Yes Equity markets go down and money typically moves into bonds via large funds. And bond ASK prices go up since quality bonds like IBM, GOOG or gov't become high demand.
3327··on Revolt against 'rich parasites' at Burning Man Festival
Here are some facts:

-Is whiteocean a plug and play elitist camp - yes absolutely. -are they inclusive? No they are not. -Is burning man's mantra radical inclusion? - Yes.

The jist is burning man has a mantra to radical inclusion and even if white ocean is a plug and play camp or elitist they have to be included. So by logic the act is wrong and I say this as someone who despises them.

So how do we go work for Elon if we have particular expertise on the Solar and storage part - particularly in the way that he has mentioned here?
3327··on Apple Fires Back at Spotify for Asking for 'Preferential Treatment'
Curious on what grounds are you making these claims?

Would you disagree if this was a startup whom had built an app store over a decade and was getting violated?

I am not a fan of jagurnaut tech companies but the rules are the rules. They built it and from what I can see (I am an IOS developer) the payment system is indeed in violation.

The guidelines clearly say that apple payment system MUST be used. It doesn't matter if you are Spotify or an indie game dev.

is 30% steep? absolutely! But hey if it was my business I would love it its a great margin - so would you.

Bottom line is Spotify is in violation and they don't want to pay the 30% which Is understandable but Apple will not budge because they don't half too.

TLDR; "Apple to Spotify: Kiss my Ass".

3327··on US military uses 8-inch floppy disks to coordinate nuclear force operations
There is more to this than "out dated" technology. There is tremendous espionage and malicious activity protection by using outdated technology. The schematics of these systems were never online, making and introducing malware is also prohibitively difficult due to the lack of domain knowledge and expertise on the technology.

There are huge upsides to using outdated technology when it comes to nuclear warheards.

3327··on At Chobani, Now It’s Not Just the Yogurt That’s Rich
Hamdi is an example ceo,

Here is some background information - don't grt me wrong the move is great but as any great move there are a few more implications:

1) tpg loaned 750mn to bail out idaho plant to Ulukaya.

2) as part of the deal tpg has warrants against hamdi's own stock.

3) tpg try to oust hamdi once, the gidt cements his role as a ceo as employee love and support to him is boosted.

4) tpg's warrants are diluted since hamdi gave out 10% of his own stock. Essentially now the options can address 90% of hamdi's stock.

AGain a great chess move.

Your move tpg.

Edir: typos due to mobile.

3327··on Saudi Arabia Warns of Economic Fallout If Congress Passes 9/11 Bill
I know many saudi's that I like but the kingdom or government (whatever you want to call it) has turned a blind eye to terrorism. Anyone who has done a little research on 9/11 will realize they did play a key role one way or another.

The fact that they are threatening with such high stakes confirms the fear of what else may be discovered when looked into.

3327··on Meet the millennials looking to get rich or die tryin'

3327··on Learning from Tay’s introduction
Or: We are in a bubble in Redmond and thinking we know best and how products work we bounced around emails and thought it would be a good testing idea based on results in China (a controlled market where it is nearly impossible speak up). AI buzz is hot these days so our marketing team also backed it up and we decided it would be great from a PR perspective to capture some of the buzz around AlphaGo. Boy were we so wrong. Because we have never launched a real product into the wild we thought everything would go well and PR buzz would give us a coolness bump.

Now we discovered something called stopwords, and bayseian spam filters which, are also available part of project Oxford.

Good luck kids and welcome to the real world because its a crazy world out there when you leave Redmond.
