Whenever I try to launch a product/service, I am thinking this way:

- Which problem am I solving? - Where people with this problem could ask for solutions - What would they type in Google while searching for solution

In this way I find different forums, blogs, etc. From that point, when you know where your users are, you can decide will you pay for advertisements or you'll do it in some other way.

It's interesting to see. If nothing more, I at least learned(again) that powerful marketing is the key for successful product/service - front page on HN/TechCrunch/Mashable/etc is definitely something that every startup should focus on in the beginning.
