000ooo000··on Shooting down ideas is not a skill
Seems like "shooting down ideas" here is just "criticism of my idea whose framing hurts my feelings". If you want to light a fire with wet wood and cry because someone points that out, you probably lack the grit to execute anyway. Nobody owes you a sugarcoated explanation of the ways your idea is shit. Grow up.
000ooo000··on Show HN: Mtproto.zig – High-performance Telegram proxy with DPI evasion
Yeah it does. If you're happy routing your personal data through software that lacks an author who fully understands what the software does, good for you. Suggesting that this doesn't matter in general is.. not an opinion I'd share publicly.
000ooo000··on Software Engineering Is Becoming Civil Engineering
Meh, 2026 edition of "developers vs coders vs engineers". It wasn't interesting before, it isn't now. People will do development at varying depths and breadths depending on their interest, role, project, and skill. For some reason, some people seem obsessed with this topic. "Coders don't care about CS fundamentals!", "engineers apply rigor"! Snore
000ooo000··on Claude Code Unpacked : A visual guide
Just finished looking at Ink here.. frontend world has no shame. Love the gloating about 40x less RAM as if that amount of memory for a text REPL even approaches defensible. "CC built CC" is not the flex people seem to suggest it is.

000ooo000··on Improved Git Diffs with Delta, Fzf and a Little Shell Scripting
>onboard three new devs who would rather gouge their eyes out than decipher an 80-line shell script

If you've just hired a dev who can't/won't read 80 lines of shell, you have bigger problems than GUI vs TUI.

000ooo000··on Why are executives enamored with AI, but ICs aren't?
>My competitive edge did not diminish, it expanded.

Reality check: LLMs are available to everyone, dev or otherwise, so your 'competitive edge' is indeed diminished if you believe LLMs are all that.

Ah duh, cheers
000ooo000··on Shell Tricks That Make Life Easier (and Save Your Sanity)
I have a bash key binding, Ctrl+Y, that prepends sudo to the current command and submits it. I also don't use sudo-rs. No one has died yet.

000ooo000··on Show HN: Nit – I rebuilt Git in Zig to save AI agents 71% on tokens
So the big token saving was changing a setting that Git already allows you to change?

And does 8ms really matter when you're shunting bulk crap back and forth from the cloud?

000ooo000··on Our commitment to Windows quality
>We are introducing the ability to reposition it [taskbar] to the top or sides of your screen

*reintroducing

Windows is terminal. Taskbar on the top isn't changing that. It has product manager rot. Good luck ousting the people with the power these days.

000ooo000··on Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years?

000ooo000··on Ask HN: How do you deal with people who trust LLMs?
>Ultimately, using an AI is a new skill

It's incredible watching people determine that outsourcing their thinking and work to what has been generously described as a junior coworker is a new 'skill'. Words are losing their meaning, on multiple levels.

000ooo000··on AI coding is gambling
No sane person would argue Person A is a concreter if Person A is telling Person B to do concreting and Person B does the concreting. Doesn't matter if Person A had elaborate plans for the concrete, or if Person A owns the concrete afterwards. These are long-established ideas. You can twist it and argue "semantics!" all you want but it will never take with anyone but the Person A's.
000ooo000··on AI coding is gambling
It's sad to watch the mental gymnastics at play. I guess by asking my mechanic to service my car, I'm a mechanic too? I want it > it gets done > I am the doer. Ridiculous.

Developer discovers context switching tax
000ooo000··on The return-to-the-office trend backfires
>Please work in a day as a oil rig technician or a nurse. "I should be able to work anywhere and my employer must accommodate me" is an extremely privileged and elitist view of thinking.

To highlight just how stupid this is, here it is from another angle:

"I have to work on site so everyone else must work on site"

What is the logical conclusion here? That the workforce should be equal in every sense? Come on

000ooo000··on The return-to-the-office trend backfires
Congratulations. You have outed yourself as the archetypal manager that every WFH/RTO thread ever complains about.

000ooo000··on Fedora 44 on the Raspberry Pi 5
Very sorry, but people are allowed to have opinions and to express them. If the opinions upset you, then don't read them - by your logic anyway.
000ooo000··on Atlassian to cut roughly 1,600 jobs in pivot to AI
Anything in particular? I first used it about 10 years ago, on prem, and am currently using the cloud version. Current edition is clunky, slow, and constantly badgers me with Rovo shit I can't disable. IMHO, it reeks of a product once built by and for technical people that eventually got dumbed down by POs to the point of being painful for the original users. Obviously I'm no longer the target user because I assume someone somewhere appreciates these changes.

Where do you put the story points????
000ooo000··on Ask HN: Why there are no actual studies that show AI is more productive?
GP's bio:

>I'm [...] at $x, a frontier AI Security company

I really should check these before I bother engaging with posts boosting AI

000ooo000··on Ask HN: Why there are no actual studies that show AI is more productive?
>Now, we're seeing a technology which most professional developers — that have used it seriously, at least — insist is orders of magnitude better than anything else that's come before it.

You can't just assert this. I could equally-baselessly say most professional developers have used LLMs and find them, overall, more trouble than they're worth. Except it's not totally baseless because I think that was actually a result of a study, IIRC.

000ooo000··on I don't know if my job will still exist in ten years

000ooo000··on I resigned from OpenAI
Easier to remain in the industry if you are shittalking principles instead of people.
000ooo000··on GitHub Actions is shitting the bed again
Don't think any salt is required. During the Zig departure from GH, there were several GH Actions repo issues where it was highlighted just how bad some of the code is, and there was zero effort from GH to fix the problems or even accept past PRs from the community to fix these things.

We just got our mandate from on high that we're migrating to GH. You can imagine my joy.

000ooo000··on HN is drowning in AI comments
Articulateness is a decent (not perfect) signal for intelligence, which is a decent (not perfect) signal for sound ideas. In a sea of online garbage, it was a quick and easy way to discard that not worth reading. Nowadays, a whiff of AI's brand of articulateness tells me the author couldn't manage on their own, either due to skill or discipline. In either case, the result is the same: close tab / scroll past.
