Because whatever happens it will have strong repercussions on the economy of all the world?
I have this feeling this will be a Y2K type non event.
No. And please don't assume that the current erratic actions of the government at the moment are representative of the opinions in greece in general. The vast majority of greeks will vote to stay in the euro (obviously with the next government) , given the current alternative (drachma). Right now what you are seeing unfolding is the borderline-psychotic behavior of the finance minister followed by the general incompetence of the PM.
Because this is Europe's Lehman weekend. Those who think that contagion is not an issue anymore may be in for a surprise. In combination with this week's record plunge at Shanghai Stock Exchange and a general slowdown of the world economy this could spiral out of control fairly quickly.
The eurogroup statement was signed by everyone except greece. Even cyprus, a "sister" country of ethnic greeks signed it. Greece stands more isolated than ever now. What contagion are you talking about?
I think he means contagion in the sense of "economic contagion". If Greece will fail to pay his debts there will be heavy consequences in the whole euro-zone for sure, and even in the rest of the world. Italy/Germany/France are all at risk to directly lose (as in "no one can give me them back") around 50 billions each for example
They finally admit that they don't care about democracy, they're not interested in getting the situation any better in Greece, they don't care about the peoples of Europe. Monday, I'll get rid of my euros and hope that the 5th the Greeks will have the guts to vote NO.
