Not disputing that at all, but why are they still truck drivers if there are alternative jobs? And if there are no nice alternative jobs, what are they going to do instead and why aren't they doing that now?

Taxi driving is one of the jobs many immigrants end up doing in a new town. If we automate the taxi, what do we do with all the taxi drivers?

What would they do if their jobs were all eliminated overnight? Would they go get a job that will give them a better life? Probably not, because they would have done that already.

Autonomous vehicles will not show up and take over overnight. My prediction will be close to full saturation(in most areas) in ~50 years. Improving the technology, infrastructure and regulatory hurdles will all be rolled out incrementally.

Then why do they do it if they can afford to quit their jobs?
