Me too, and it is why I am more active here than on Reddit. The fact that Reddit has to tag posts as "serious" gives you an indication of how challenging it is for interesting and honest discussion to take place over there.
Treating reddit as a singular 'thing' like HN doesn't really work, reddit is a platform for thousands of communities each of which has different standards and expectations.
