Ask HN: Would this break net neutrality?
So, I've been reading a lot about net neutrality lately, and a lot of people are saying that if net neutrality doesn't happen, then most sites on the internet can slow down to really slow rates (other than the sites that the ISP has a deal with)
Here's my assessment, we all pay for a certain amount of bandwidth. Say 1mbps. Now say, you can access all sites on the internet at 1 mbps. However, since youtube has a deal with your ISP, you get a better speeds (so that videos don't have to buffer).
This way, youtube gets a better chance to attract attention, because at 1 mbps, high resolution video would not stream, ISPs make more money, and we as consumers win, because we are already getting what we want, but now, we won't have a problem with streaming videos on YouTube.
In the above hypothetical example, doesn't everyone win? I mean you can still watch another video site at 1 mbps, which is the speed that you're paying for.
