Ask HN: Tools for teaching programming remotely

I'm teaching my little brother how to program, but he lives in a different state. Any good tips on tools to make learning more effective for him? I'm thinking of screen-sharing, or collaborative editors or something. I'm on Mac, he's on Windows.
