Does owning a mac helps you secure funding/reputation easily?

My doubt is regarding: Correlation doesn't imply causation. I have seen scenarios where mac makes a difference. People doesn't take you serious if you using linux thinking you are nerd.(Windows is ofcourse out of question). I know it's all about the implementation of idea, but i seen recruiters asking "if you own a mac " during negotiation.

During hackathons i saw lot of presentation where a guy would be using ubuntu to give a demo about (distributed cdn/remote controlling light system) while a guy showing d3.js graphs would make to finalists and not the earlier.

So i am just want some views over the perception, how people look at you owing a mac or linux . Is it about the mentality of free thing in linux i.e you just like free and cheap stuff not steady to pay ? Sorry if this insults anyone !

Thanks

Cheers

My suggestion would be to use the hardware/software that works best for you (technologically, financially, etc.) and not give a shit about what other people think. A solid reputation for doing good work will speak much louder than your choice of laptop, at least to the people who really matter.

Do you really want to impress someone (or work for someone) who'd treat you differently based on whether "you own a mac" or dress the way they do or drink a particular brand of beer? Do you think someone who makes decisions based on such shallow preferences would have better or worse odds of running a successful business?

That's why, while I still think he's a brilliant dude, I think Peter Thiel's bias against investing in companies whose founders dress more formally is completely idiotic. Who cares if I'm wearing a three piece suit or sneakers, jeans and a hoodie.

yes, you are correct. From other perspective: I use linux in terms of free speech and not in terms of free beer. I do give back to linux community by donations & open source work . Since i don't want to be cheap.

Thanks

Linux can sometimes be a pain in the butt to get working well with a projector. Did the guys doing Linux demos have technical difficulties and end up having to pantomime their demos?

I guess, they just need to mirror the display.(ubuntu, mint, fedora, arch) does works perfectly.

which linux distro you are specifically talking about ?

I will give you extra points if you are running Linux on a Mac

/sarcasm

In a VM, Bootcamp or fully native?

Enquiring minds and all that ;)
