edit: They refuse to acknowledge the problem. They said "you get what you pay for" and tried to upsell me to their dedicated hosting.

(edit: I can't recommend them for Rails though. They will hosts Rails apps, but only via a CGI interface which is crazy slow. If you're ever looking for a good Rails host try http://www.blueboxgrp.com/)
If you want to have a support ticket escalated to Brent (President of the company) you just ask, and it actually happens. He spent a week emailing with me when we were having some downtime issues this August.
No host is perfect, but HostGator customer support is awesome, the QoS is good, and the pricing is fair. That's all I can ask for.
