Ask HN: Any experience with data science bootcamps?

My brother's finishing up his first year as a postdoc in Mathematics and is thinking about attending a data science bootcamp. I've seen a lot of skeezy, scammy programmer bootcamps lately and was wondering if anyone knew which camps (if any) were worthwhile and which were total scams.

FWIW, he's done a bit of his own research and thinks The Data Incubator (http://www.thedataincubator.com/) would be a good fit -- they specifically target math PhD's -- and the only one I've heard mentioned is Zipfian.

Any recommendations or horror stories you can share about those or any other bootcamp?
