Golang is Trash

Whenever I see someone dismiss the work of obviously smart people as "trash" then I just assume they are 1) arrogant and 2) usually missing the point.

E.g. complaining about the capitalisation of intermediate output is just pure whining. It's not a substantial criticism at all.

I'll note that the BSD ports of golang were brought up without any of this nasty complaint, even the OpenBSD one :)

Well, I brought up the Solaris port, and I don't have any complaint. I wrote about the experience in the previous HN thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8817568

"I should mention that I have no real opinion on the language itself; I’m not a languages person (C will do, thanks), and that’s not the part of the system I have experience with anyway. Rather, the runtime and toolchain are the parts on which I wish to comment."

Might I suggest changing the title of this post to "the golang runtime and toolchain are trash"?

That wouldn't be nearly as clickbaity, though.

The toolchain has existed for over 20 years in Plan9

Seems down for me, mirror:

I didn't really watch the development of Go, but is there any reason the toolchain wasn't built on top of LLVM from the start?

Sometimes down-toning titles doesn't work out right.

Grandstanding.

Here's what real trash looks like.
