To clarify: by "burn out" I'm referring to becoming tired with a project. I'd hope that the maintainer would simply move on to another project.
What do you mean by "move on"? I'm sure Steve hasn't been spending the majority of his finite amount of time since he put the emoji gem code up on github working only on the emoji gem.
