Ask HN: Pay-as-you-go SaaS services?
They often have a low-end package for people who are gonna just mess around with the service, usually at like $5 or $10 a month, with a limit on how much you use. I for one often don't bother experimenting with these services because I don't like having a lot of recurring subscription payments. They all pile up, and sometimes I want them and sometimes I don't - I won't necessarily need X00GB of whatever every month but one month out of three I might. It's very inflexible.
A PAYG system would be much more flexible and I think would lower the barrier to entry for many devs who don't wanna commit. Something where you get X00GB of whatever, for a one-off payment of $5, and you can use it any time you like (maybe it expires after a year of no use, or something). This would be great for developers who want to play around with something but don't know how long they want to do it for, or at what volume. Maybe when they're ready they could upgrade to a subscription.
Are there any examples of SaaS companies which do this?
