Interesting that the name Ruby was already claimed (like Go). I guess no one in Ruby On Rails thought to check.

"Ruby on Rails" isn't the Ruby programming language, they are two different things.

But no, Matz had nothing to worry about when he named his programming language Ruby. The Ruby that I worked on had long since become part of Visual Basic.

Wikipedia puts Ruby at 1993. I think it's reasonable to assume that Matz hadn't heard of a project that started not much earlier.

"I guess" you didn't think to check.

And I don't think the people "in" Ruby on Rails named Ruby!
