Apple locked us in, but how long will the jail sentence last?

It didn’t take a genius to realise that having all your MP3s in an Apple AAC format was locking you in.

Considering this is a standard format and there are Free Software players for these files, I am not sure how Apple is locking you in here. Maybe your Zune won't play AAC, but anything else will. (Edit: the Zune does play AAC.)

I think you're wasting to time replying to the alleged "argument" of someone who can type "MP3s in an Apple AAC format". Clearly they've not got the finest grip on the situation.

Sony Walkmans have used AAC by default, and they actually have the option of converting all MP3's to AAC's to improve storage space (mine roughly doubled the storage space using AAC's over MP3's for the same song). Creative Zen's also play AAC and sandisk's whatever, same with many Nokia Phones, even the DSi plays AAC's.

Considering the considerable lack of choice when it comes to MP3 players, you're not exactly backed into the corner. You either have dirt cheap MP3 players that play solely MP3's or you buy an iPod/Walkman/Zune/Zen

I think the author was thinking more about DRM. Fortunately non-DRM audio files are now selling on iTunes.

Pretty much no new content here. Just rehashing a lot of other articles we've all seen before. I don't really understand why more iPhone developers aren't writing web apps. Safari on the iPhone is a fast, modern, standards compliant web browser which is quickly becoming the defacto mobile browser engine of choice.
