Would be horrible to replace something acute with something equally deadly that just takes longer.
If I was on my death bed and was offered to take a potential treatment that had a 1% chance of giving me HIV, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Now, as mentioned in the article, the blood will be screened for a variety of pathogens, including HIV, so the risk of HIV infection should be very low.
One challenge will be to make sure that the donated blood, even if it helps patients recover from Ebola, does not give them H.I.V. or hepatitis.
