> "One out of every 200 people on the planet makes more than a million dollars a year. That’s one half of one percent of the world population. In the United States, it’s one out of every 50. It’s actually people talking about the one percent, but it’s actually the two percent."

Good to know. The article would have benefited from a discussion of country club entrance and eviction policy.

>In the United States, it’s one out of every 50.

This is blatantly false.

BCG [1] claims the 2013 proportion of millionaire "households" in the US is 5.9%, which would be 1 in 20 (!). This seems really high.

A millionaire household means that they either have a million dollars in cash or in assets (not sure of the methodology used here) across a household (which can be more than one person).

Making a million dollars per year as an individual is another level entirely.

Considering the median cost of a house in, say, Reston VA is almost $450k, you can see how someone there would have a million in household assets without any other trappings of wealth.

I'd like to see a social news site that costs something like $25-50 to join. Enough to keep out kids, spammers, and trolls, but not enough to keep out serious adults.

Although I am not a member, Metafilter does this with a $5 cost.

Were you thinking of a one-time fee or annual?

This will fail so hard that it's not even funny.

A previous post about this mentioned the site is basically just a Wordpress install[0].

I'm sure if we examine the ashes long enough, we'll find the comedy.

Don't underestimate the self-delusion capacity of the semi-affluent. How long has the "pay me something to be published in our folio of Very Important People" scam been going on, with a never-ending line of suckers willing to pay to be included.
