To add some balance, I found this article "The Biggest Myths" (http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/the-biggest-myths.html) to be really helpful in sorting out what is going on with systemd. I was a bit sad that Upstart did not win on the Ubuntu side because I had already invested in learning the technology and I quite like it versus SysV init scripts.
