Why is there a 300 comment discussion on a taxi company on Hacker News? How is this different from a fast-growing yoghurt company or an IT consultancy? Why do we care so much?

It's because they are ostentatiously making a lot of money while blatantly flaunting the law. This attracts attention, as much as Al Capone once did.

It's because Uber is the fastest growing tech-startup on earth right now.
