Ask HN: Where to donate to?

I have recently done some work for an open-source project, for which I am getting paid $250. The money is not important, the main reason for doing this tiny side project was to contribute to the project.

My plan is to simply donate the money. The project itself is backed by a corporation, so there is no need for the project itself to get the money. Should I then donate to the EFF, FSF or Apache? I normally donate to health and social related causes, so this area is new to me.
