Humans actually can't do this:

As we look down, the upper eyelid automatically follows.

Try it in front of a mirror. Tilt you head back and try to open your eyes as shown in the image above. You won't be able to do it.

Interesting, never thought of that.

Did you mean 'can't' or 'don't'. I just tried it, it's easy, it just feels like you're a bit wide-eyed.
