I absolutely agree. There is a huge, amazing array of concepts that never gets touched upon because it is important that students learn to divide large numbers by hand. They were designed for an era where "computers" were people and companies hired people to keep, literally "the books" in order. That world disappeared decades ago, but this relic remains.
