In defense of the PHP devs here, I think calling PHP "server herpes" was sort of asking for it.

It is not that much about hate. It is about how development of modern server apps (Ghost, Discourse) is leaving the 'standard' way of doing things and spawning a new generation of apps that will compete with the established PHP-based solutions (WordPress, Drupal, etc.)
