Datadog Raises $15M for Monitoring and Data Analytics Platform

Hey, this is exciting! I've worked closely over the last few months with the Datadog folks and the interaction has been _wonderful_. Support tickets, feature requests and general questions are answered very promptly and with great care.

Also, they don't balk at the huge stream of data I push at them. :-)

Datadog is rally a brilliant product, super simple to install the agent and great to measure in-app metrics through built in support for statsd. I'm curious to see what their next steps on the product level will be. On the company side they're in a busy market with New Relic and Splunk both seeming to have a much larger marketing budget, while Datadog has a better product from a technical perspective.

All three are complimentary. At Shopify we use all three for slightly different things.

  * Splunk searches the log files and sends alerts
  * NewRelic is our always running systems profiler and our primary source for spotting performance regressions and digging into the issues
  * Datadog creates the dashboards and anomaly tracking, sometimes for business metrics as well. It's also a great tool to coordinate fixing incidents when they arise.

Our Ops area has a massive wall of 55" screens showing all this telemetry to anyone passing by. It's wild.

Any chance of a picture of that? Assuming you are not in an company where cameras are banned for reasons of data protection or industrial secrets keeping, of course.
