An alternative: Use Google to find the person's last name, and then search on LinkedIn using their full name. Their full profile will then be displayed.
I actually used this technique myself once. In preparing for an interview, I was able to access someone's full profile. I don't know if this technique would work for every profile, but it served my purpose.
tl;dr: playing with the query string lets you see profiles of users three degrees away (which is, apparently, not normally permitted)
