BharatRatna... Sachin and/or Dyan Chand?
1928 Amsterdam Olympics - 14 goals in 5 games : won gold : tagged DC as 'The Hockey Wizard' 1932 Los Angeles Olympics - beat USA 24 - 1 ( 8 goals by DC ) : won gold again 1936 Berlin Olympics - beat German 8 - 1 : won gold again - Hat trick ! (a mesmerized Hitler offered him German citizenship and a promotion to the rank of a Colonel)
The number of goals Dhyan Chand scored in his international career is more than 400 is the answer. Interestingly, this figure does not account for the goals he scored overall in his glorious career spanning over 20 years. That number would roughly be touching 1000. Equally brilliant as 99.94, if not better.
“He scores goals like runs in cricket,” remarked Bradman when the geniuses of their respective games came face to face in Adelaide in 1935.
The magician's admirers are spread across the globe. More recently, a hockey stadium in UK was named after Dhyan Chand as a tribute to the legendary player.
