It makes little sense to use a hybrid Perl/PHP product these days. MT was suffering from being a Perl/CGI product and patched it up with PHP only to still be eaten by WordPress. Too little too late.

MT is not a hybrid Perl/PHP product. You can run MT just fine without having PHP installed.

The PHP stuff is, AFAICT, another way to write MT plugins.

It's more than plugins, PHP is used to get around the ugly rebuilding process. PHP is required for "dynamic publishing".

And dynamic publishing is what drives wordpress powered blogs into the ground when hit by the Digg effect.

I hope the Melody project will better enable the use of CGI::Application or others for dynamic publishing instead of PHP There are already extensions for that, e.g. http://oss.iteman.jp/wiki/2/A_Perl_based_dynamic_publishing_...

There are easy ways around this with cache plugins. The MT approach was always just too painful to work with.

And there are other ways to 'get around' the ugly rebuilding process which do not include making your site as digg allergic as wordpress.

Sounds like Melody is an attempt at addressing the hybrid problem (amongst a lot of other problems).

Perhaps, but the source right now is exactly as I described. Seems odd to start from the CGIs if you want an all PHP system.

I don't know why they would want either honestly, it's not a real interesting problem and there are already plenty of solutions.

How so? I didn't find anything referring to that on their site.
