Ask HN: Ideal scripting language for business reporting (OSX Compatable)

Once upom a time I - at best an amateur programmer - could quickly develop reports in cold fusion for my employer with not much more than HTML under my belt. What is today's best equivalent that I can also run locally on OSX?
