Currently $0, and $0 yesterday, and $0 when it was 'published'. There's a reason for that, (eg it occasionally refers to Javascript as Java amongst other 'treasures') and it'll take 10 minutes from your life that you'll never get back.

How is it possible that O'Reilly puts their name on something with blatant errors like that?

Haha, fair enough. I just noticed it while looking for NodeJS books to read. I saw it was published in 2011 and opted for " Learning Node.js: A Hands-On Guide to Building Web Applications in JavaScript" instead.

To quote one reviewer from the UK:

"Just read about it on the web. A pointless book. Just because it's free doesn't mean you should download it. The time spent deleting it from your list will be time you will never get back."

Since this is pretty much a useless conversation thread where most comments are warning you to not waste your time, I want to ask a question to people who buy books from Amazon via this one click purchase. How do I get the book I purchased as a mobi or epub file? I don't really like the cloud reader but cannot find anywhere how to download the mobi or epub file I purchased for a book from them.

Technically, Kindle's native ebooks are MOBI (albeit DRM-encumbered), but Amazon doesn't provide unencumbered MOBI or EPUB versions of the ebooks they sell. There are gray market tools available to strip the DRM from Kindle ebooks and convert them into a more open format: doing a quick Google search for "convert kindle to epub" provided a number of tutorials.

You can download the file (using Kindle For PC), but it's DRM'd.

As someone else said, Amazon isn't down with that other device crap. Fortunately o'Reilly is. first page of the book says that if you buy it from them you get it DRM free.

Yeah, I always buy directly from Oreilly and everyone else should to. In my case, it's an ebook that is only available from Amazon.

You need to download and run the Kindle software from Amazon on you Mac, PC, tablet, or phone. The books you buy can be downloaded and read through that.

I have read it. It is very introductory. The author describes the idea behind the creation of Node. Probably interesting for a beginner (either on Node or generally on web developing) who would like to decide which framework he/she wants to learn.

I do think the JS should be obligatory. Depending what you are doing, it can be an ambiguous term. For example, I'm working on some chef infrastructure where the word node refers to any top level attribute used by your cookbooks. There are also other people working with graph software where node has another definition.

I think the title was meant to read "why is" rather than "what is".
