After all, it's not like the concept is particularly original. And, the name is a spinoff of Twitpic. Twitvid is a very obvious name for a Twitter video-sharing site.
I don't believe either groups were stupid, merely ignorant of the other's existence. But maybe I'm stupid and they are both malicious.
Up to a certain point the Eatlime guys were unaware of Twitvid, but that point was probably several days before the TechCrunch article.
I think that in the super-competitive startup arena, emotions are going to run high. When you have so much at stake, it's easy to overreact. I sometimes wish I could have a mental equivalent of my ubiquitous work-email-client 1 minute delayed send rule.
I don't believe twitvid.com copied anything at all from twitvid.io.
You would have to be blind to think there was no blatant copying here. Even the icons are the same.
What's next? Twitpic accused of ripping off TwitVid.io? Why aren't we seeing some stupid post like this about TwitVid.in or the other Twitter video sites.
They'd probably been working on something, but they didn't have the name twitvid.com, and (as they've said themselves) they didn't just happen to launch a few days later: they rushed to launch something after Twitvid launched.
However, to me it's irrelevant, the Twitvid.io guys were very stupid to assume nobody would launch a similar service on the .com domain…which was already registered!
I honestly applaud them for jumping at the opportunity. I actually think they have a better design too, so I wouldn't call it a clone...they could have changed where the login box was and stuff, but that would have been an absurd waste of time.
