Ask PG: Why is there a title box on the submit page?

There seems to be a meta discussion every day from people getting annoyed at mods changing titles, or asking for a title to be changed etc. It seems clear that HN doesn't want the title to be editorialised, and it says as much in the guidelines. Why not get rid of the bickering by simply removing the option of submitting a title? Just get it from the page itself.

Also, it gets really annoying when you click on a link only to find out you already read it under a different title.
