Is Gmail down again?

This is when real-time search is really useful: http://www.plurk.com/psearch#q=gmail and http://search.twitter.com/search?q=gmail

It's down and it's down all over the world.

it is down - http://www.google.com/appsstatus

Besides of the above URL, http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ works not only for google but any other service too. However, I got suggested that tool via twitter, but I have no clue how it works or how reliably it is.

http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/3drealms.com

"Looks down from here" suggests to me that it's simply doing an HTTP GET and interpreting the returned status code (or timing out). http://downforyouaswellorjustme.com/ would probably be more accurate.

right. Even better the service could become if they'd watch the status pages for the services they'dget asked about. But takes a little more effort than a plain GET.

I didn't know that such a google-page actually exists, thanks. btw: gmail works for me at the moment (although its status is marked with "Service outage").

You have to expect these things from a beta service :p

Down for me briefly, a few minutes ago.

It is back online now.. I wonder how much productivity gets affected even with 5 secs of downtime

You mean productivity gained? :-)

Well, it is a free service. (Working for me now, fwiw.)

I pay by looking at ads from time to time.

Fine for me.. but a friend tweeted it was down.

Same here - Temporary Error (500)

up for me on IMAP the whole past hour

Not to sound negative or anything, but are we going to have a story anytime a popular service like gmail, MSN, twitter or whatever goes down?

Also, aren't you guys supposed to work at this hour? ;)

not scheduled?
