Manuals Search Engine (about 5.770.000 manuals)

Pretty nice idea. Just a couple thoughts..

1. Definitely would like to search on content keywords, not just title of manual. 2. One of your top priorities should be getting this to the top of Google search for 'manual'. Right now it looks like your competition is a bunch of tech-centric manuals (iPhone, MySQL, etc.). I have to think these are beatable entries (though it won't be easy).

Very useful; I always lose my manuals.

Would love to see an iPhone app; Ability to take a photo of the barcode/serial#, say of my stereo receiver, and get the manual right on my iPhone screen.

Interesting idea. I tested it with three pieces of equipment within my field of view, comparing the results to a simple Google search: - Sony PVW-2650 betacam deck: Manuals Search Engine didn't find anything; Google returned a link to the operations manual. - Canon SD800 IS digital camera: MSE 0; Google 1 - MacBook Pro: (on which I'm typing this) MSE 1; Google 1

Very interesting. Could you also allow generous users to upload scanned manuals for old products which aren't online? IANAL but perhaps if you're in the US you could get some Safe Harbor protection and in any case, it is not certain that manufacturers would care if you hosted their old manuals.

Needs moar audio equipment. Tried 5 different items, found all of them on google. Obscure, I know, but that's why I like search engines. Great concept though, bookmarked for future use. Don't know if it would help to scrape results looking for .pdf extensions.

It can certainly be improved - it didn't find the manual for a Nokia 5220. Don't search engines rely on huge human intervention?

Awesome idea! I thought of just a few things (my car, my coffee maker) and the manuals are right there. The best products are always those that solve common problems.
