Senior Project Managers : Advise me

Could you give me best practices and practices that you use when you starting a new project? Do you use some methodology? You use it with your team or also when you are working alone? What you use in your company? Also do you know what big companies use?

Are there resources, books or tutorials i could read?

Best Regards
