Maybe I'm missing something, but how do the HTML and the JS panes relate to each other? Neither appears to refer to or include the other, but obviously they're combining somehow to produce the output.

Perhaps the answer to your question is that the code is being written inside of http://jsbin.com/ which does that combining automagically.

The javascript is what you would have on the scope of the page. It works like the Web Console in Firefox or Chrome.
