I do this in terminals:

  cat > /dev/null

Type whatever you want, then control-D to end.

That is a UUOC. This...

    > /dev/null

...does the same thing.

No, it doesn't. It just drops you to another shell prompt.

Not in zsh it doesn't. (tip: it's a zsh thing.)
